About the school :
Lynsi Love centre education High School is a community-run school providing secondary education, elementary and Primary education to orphans and other children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We have over 60 students, both girls and boys, aged between 11 and 17.We are located in Patanisho Slums of Nairobi Kenya 10 miles from the city centre.The school is run on Christian principles, and accepts children regardless of their religion, tribe, ethnicity or political background. Some students come from the nearby slums, while others come from the rural areas, with others living at the centre.
Job description :
We are seeking volunteer english, biology, mathematics, business education and computer teachers.You will be involved in teaching secondary-level students, and planning lessons. The average class size is 15. Ideally, you should also be able to provide training/mentoring to other teachers at the school. This is especially important for computer teachers as, although we have a small number of computers, none of our staff have experience in teaching IT skills.We are also looking for people who can assist with school administration or proposal writing. Web designing and mobilizing resources.
Experience and qualifications :
For teaching roles, you must be a qualified teacher with a degree or diploma in teaching/education or the subject you teach, and have secondary-level teaching experience.For other roles, you should have practical experience of the area you wish to volunteer in.
Personnal requirements :
We welcome volunteers from anywhere in the world. You must be flexible, open-minded and keen to work with and learn from people from different cultures. Preference will be given to men and women aged 18-70. Although the school is run along Christian lines, you may be from any (or no) religion, as long as you respect our beliefs. You must be able to speak and write fluent English. As Kenya only has limited healthcare facilities, you should be in reasonable health.
Dates and length of stay :
Volunteers are required to come for any duration and are required around the year as we have other activities going on. For example, some volunteers came for 2 weeks, 1 month or 3 months.
Accomodation and food :
There are rooms available in my residential house for you to put up there During school hours you will eat with the children. You have dinner and break fast with my family. We have water filters to combat bacteria and therefore you will have clean water.
Leisure time :
At weekends you will be free to relax and visit places of interest in tourist attractions like Masai mara at your cost and you can travel in the country side too to meet other local Kenyans. We can also organize for you safaris in many places at reasonnable prices.
Costs :
We do not charge you any coast, but you are welcome to donate to school and the orphanage pay your own upkeep expenses. If you are putting up with us we will ask you to subsidize our food with a cost of $200 per Month per person. Special arrangement for couples living together available.
Travelling to the school :
You will need to pay US$40 for airport exchange and pay daily US$1 fares from the home to school daily

ReplyDeleteAt the centre is me, Stan a volunteer from DRC. I was looking for an orphanage from the internet to be a volunteer and coincidentially found Lynsi Love where i am now.Its fan and also touching to be with the students with different challeges .I teach them french,computer and work also in the administration office with ben and suzette the adminstrator. I appeal for more passionate volunteers from all over to join me in this worthy course.
